The data can be custom extracted and formatted from FAA data every 56 days
as we used to do here. It is a time consuming and expensive thing.

We currently use Jepp. Data. They do all the extracting work and we have
fresh data every 28 days. Our current generation of Lorans and Flight
management systems (such as the NV1000 which contains a moving map) have
slide in DB cards so you can update the data without removing the Loran.
This has worked well for us as we can get all the data from one source
(U.S. Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, ... everything in Jepps. North
American coverage area), The data is correct (Jepp. is very good about
correct data), and we can spend our time working on other things. According
to a Jeppesen Sanderson press release a few months ago, this has worked
out well for them as well: The Arnav R50 DB card was proclaimed the fastest
growing data base service they have ever had.

Is it forsale? Well, depends on what you mean. You can get a subscription
direct from Jepp. for our R-50 or NV-1000 data base cards :-); this probably
won't work for whatever you have in mind as it is designed to work in
Arnav equipment.

I don't know whether or not they would be willing to sell the "raw" data
to you but, I suspect it may be a lot more expensive than you would think
on a 1-shot basis. If you are only interested in U.S. data, you might try
NOS or the FAA for some of the data.

Before selecting Jeppesen as our data source, our data came from several
sources. Some of it was hand extracted off the charts and then hand entered
into our data!
